Glen’s follow up email:

Just a quick follow up from the studio visit and thinking about the various synonyms that might be useful to you as base-line actions in studio. It could be worth making a list of terms, which will then be concepts ripe for definition and perhaps connection to other texts in your research.

I made the following list, partly from what you were saying, but you may have other words you want to put together.

 MAKING – UNMAKING

CONSTRUCTION – DECONSTRUCTION

BINDING – UNRAVELLING

STITCHING – UNPICKING

MENDING – TEARING APART

COVERING – UNCOVERING

WIPING ON – WIPING OFF

The main thing is how such a list has consequences for studio actions, but also for your contextual research.

There were a number of other things covered; you could perhaps consider summarising what was important to your ongoing thinking.

MARCH 17th:

Pip Culbert (1938-2016) British artist working with stitching, Literally removing all fabric around the stitching and presenting the seems as the artwork.
